In 2023, a total of 4,769 trucks and tractor-trailers were involved in incidents on federal highways in Mexico, including single-unit, articulated and semi-trailer trucks, according to the Statistical Yearbook of Collisions on Federal Highways of the Mexican Institute of Transportation (IMT).
In more than 70% of the Accidents in Heavy Duty Vehicles, the cause of the accident was identified and classified for analysis, concentrating almost 66% in the first five categories identified, of which four are related to the driver:
- 39.67% – Recklessness or intention behind the wheel
- 9.49% – Not keeping distance
- 6.8% – Invasion of the opposite lane
- 5.16% – Poor electromechanical conditions of the vehicle
- 4.77% – Excessive speed
