Terms such as fuel efficiency, RPM, idle, urea level or operating ranges, left me scared, and were only the beginning of more complex phrases such as fleet management, punctuality analysis, route compliance, and many more, which they positioned to the Autotransport Sector in the place it occupies today as one of the most sophisticated and highly technological in the industry.
The complex transportation business requires the participation of various professionals and specialists capable of applying their knowledge to boost the efficiency and profitability of the operation.
But, how do you get a financial analyst to acquire, not only a trucker’s mouth, but a trucker’s mind, capable of understanding a wide variety of operating ranges, associating data to relate causes and effects, to be able to interpret it in terms of operating cost and financial profit?
Fortunately for me, the solution was precisely in the graphic reports of the technology applied to transport that we integrate in Didcom®, of which I am a regular promoter.
One of the reports that most streamlines the work of the fleet owner is the Driving Assessment, since it clearly and impartially qualifies the behavior of drivers behind the wheel, allowing to correct and encourage better driving habits.
The rating is generated from the rules defined by each company through a simple combination of situations, for example: Speeding is considered when the driver exceeds 100 km/hr for more than 2 minutes, penalizing his rating by 20%.
The Fleet Management can define other behaviors such as sharp turns or braking, RPM excess and even create fleet profiles to divide the vehicles that circulate on the highway and those that travel in the city, establishing rules for each group and evaluate more precisely the operation on each one.
Knowing the operation and condition of the engine of the entire vehicle in real time is undoubtedly the best tool that can be counted on mainly to avoid delays in service, increase in unnecessary expenses or engine replacements.
However, having the data is not enough. The vast majority of transport administrators, when they see the data on the screen, ask: can it be exported to Excel? with the objective of downloading the data to configurable sheets and being able to compare the information from different sources on a variety of operating ranges, to finally graph the results and obtain the magic number that indicates if the business is doing well. A lot of work!
This process can take up to 2 weeks, plus a few additional days for analysis, during which time the operation does not stop and we lose valuable opportunities to apply improvements for the business.
A highly useful tool for Fleet Management integrated in our Didcom® platform is the Summary Report, which graphically represents a great variety of data on a single screen, so that at a single glance we can know the status of the vehicle fleet.
The data is extracted from the selection of vehicles and date ranges that we choose, and is updated on the screen to be viewed in seconds. Valuable data such as fuel efficiency per km/lt or consumption lt/hr, percentage of liters that were consumed with the unit in idle, percentage of torque, total engine hours, fault codes with the highest incidence and many more.
This query shows us data from the entire fleet, but we can choose the Detailed Report to identify the origin of the problem and apply corrective actions.
The Maintenance Module allows you to keep track and reminders of future maintenance on your vehicles, being able to connect it with the month planning logistics to coordinate them and avoid costly setbacks.
The report that reflects the experience of a trucker, the one who after 30 years at the wheel is able to recognize what hurts his truck from seeing it from afar, is the Big Data Report from our Didcom® platform.
Provides the ability to query millions of multi-variable data for precise periods of time, to identify behavior patterns and predict future behaviors in the fleet, and this is where Autotransport Companies can stop doing what they have always done and begin to have better results!
Visualize your fleet as an X-ray, where you can analyze the performance of each vehicles group, according to make, model and year of manufacture. This comparison of results against the most common engine failures and their frequency allow to calculate the return on investment considering the fleet maintenance.
Didcom® Telematics provides timely, clear and reliable information for efficient Fleet Management, minimizing processes and streamlining data analysis to make immediate and informed decisions, dedicating our valuable time to detect deficiencies and opportunities for Continuous Improvement in the Fleet Operation.
